I've noticed lately that Amtrak City Of new Orleans has been turning at Jackson MS. But could not find anything on Amtrak's site. Anyone know why?

I've noticed lately that Amtrak City Of new Orleans has been turning at Jackson MS. But could not find anything on Amtrak's site. Anyone know why?

Here is the explanation, which is taken from Amtrak's Service Alerts and Notices:

CN railway has closed the route used by the City of New Orleans due to flooding. Amtrak chartered buses are being provided between Jackson and New Orleans as substitute transportation for Trains 58 and 59. Normal train service will resume as soon as possible.

Passengers will be provided bus service in both directions between Jackson, Hazlehurst, Brookhaven, McComb, Hammond and New Orleans. Passengers traveling north from New Orleans are asked to arrive at Union Passenger Terminal by 12:15 to board the buses.

I'm not aware of any problems with flooding anywhere around here lately.   I'm wondering if they are remembering when there was a washout where the trestle crosses the Bonnet Carre spillway when it was opened a few years ago, and they are being overly cautious.  The spillway has been open for a couple of weeks, but only a small part of it, and it has just been closed.

(edit):   It just occurred to me that there may have been some flooding up in Mississippi, but I haven't heard of any.

I observed a meet between N bound & S bound near Reddick today (4/11) @ 2:20 PM CDT.  S bound was “in the hole” as   N bound passed under I-10 (& me)

from the Far East of the Sunset Route
