A First for Israel Railways: Station Automatic Bicycle Lockers
Posted by daveklepper on Sunday, July 30, 2017 11:09 AM

A regular passenger with a bicycle who wishes to use it to access the railway system can obtain a secret combination locker number from the railway headquarters and use it to lock his or her bicycle at any station.  Simply bike to the station, use the lock and enter the code, and the bike will ramain locked-in the same code is entered again allowing the bike to be retreaved.

This applies to any bicycle, including those with electric assist, but doesn't apply to motorcycles as far as I can determine.

And Israel Railways is finally geting a permanent headquarters building, relacing temporary portable shacks that have served for the past 60 years adjacent to the Arlozoroff ("Central" "Merkaz") Tel Aviv Station.  The building will be adjacent to the Lod station, not far from Ben Gurion Airport, and the junction where nearly all lines come together except the high speed line to Moedin and Jerusalem and a suburban southern suburbs line from Tel Aviv.  Lod is the location of the main repair shops.  It was also the HQ during the British Mandate and probably was also for the original narrow (3-1/2 ft.) gauge Jaffa - Jerusalem line.
