Oregon senator acts to restore Klamath Falls air service

From Senator Jeff Merkley's email blog:

Restoring commercial airline service to Klamath Falls

When Klamath Falls lost commercial service at their airport two years ago, it was a huge blow to the community. So when a new carrier offered to come in but federal bureaucracy was holding them back,   Jeff leapt into action by introducing the TSA Fairness Act in Congress.

The problem was that the  T ransportation  Security  Administration (TSA)  refused to return to the Klamath Falls airport.  So Jeff  proposed legislation  torequire  TSA  to bring back screening to any airport that lost it since January 2013 and had a commitment from an airline to resume service.  The  legislation was met  with strong bipartisan support and soon passed in  both  the House and the Senate. TSA  got the message : shortly after , they agreed to restore screening services at Klamath Falls so that commercial flights could begin once again .

This past month, Jeff saw  the Klamath community’s hard work come to fruition as he joined PenAir’s inaugural flight from Portland to Klamath Falls. With the return of commercial air service to Klamath with PenAir, Southern Oregon will see a much-deserved boost to its economy with passengers once again flying  directly in and out of  Klamath County.

Please find out and tell me.  Note that Portland has the Cascade Amtrak service, the MAX light rail service, and the two-route streetcar, not just the Coast Starlight.
