A national high speed rail system.

Ah we have heard about such possibilities for decades now and when President Obama was elected, he offered the American people another morsel of food, if you will, regarding high speed rail.

Yet, in 8 years of his administration......zip on this.

Personally, I am all in favor of a high speed rail. The amount of money it would cost is obviously a source of contention. Though, if private contractors and the states got involved, the possibility might be there. Honestly, right now, today, it is not going to occur under a near 20 trillion dollar debt. However, things will one day change and I suspect that such a system will be constructed. When it is, it will be the finest ever constructed. Absolutely safe, fast, secure and above all, affordable.

Flying, for some, is simply not an option. Travel by vehicle, a nightmare in itself. So, the logical alternative is travel by rail. I happen to love the Acela. I have ridden on it several times. Once for fun and once for business. It was so beautiful. Smooth as glass and the quiet car was just almost too quiet......lol The technology is there. I firmly believe we need a national high speed rail system. An alternative to flight. The Japanese, Chinese, French and several other countries have embraced this form of train travel and it is high time we evolve into the 21st century and shred our fears of socialism and the like.

The current speed record I believe is held by the French. Who are simply amazing when it comes to train travel coupled with speed. Though, the speed record was on a specially built train set designed for this purpose. Yet, the You Tube video clearly demonstrates that the speed factor is right on the cusp of aircraft speed. This means that train travel might become the norm and not the exception when comparing it to airline travel.

That Acela was lightning fast at 150mph north of New York City heading to Boston. The ride was luxurious and honestly, just plain amazing.

Most other forum members do not like HSR, even though they know zilch about it.  Parochialism at its worst.  Freight railroads are mostly incompatible with any passenger services.
