[/quote]</p> <p>In FY10, if Amtrak could have shed the long distance trains, it could have covered its operating costs (above the rail) with an average fare increase per passenger of $7.41. Clearly, the increases would vary by leg and market variables. This number assumes no service level change on any of these routes.</p> <p>In FY10 the NEC had an operating profit of $51.5 million, offset by an operating loss for the other short corridor trains of $231 million.</p>
