Major failure of Dock drawbridge on NEC
Posted by blue streak 1 on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 3:09 PM

Could not find the thread about possible bridge failure so starting a new one.  The Dock draw bridge located just NE of Neewark Penn station owned by Amtrak failed Tuesday evening ~ 6:00 PM.  Fortunately for NJ Transit and Amtrak the regular NEC tracks were not affected.  However the PATH trains which also use the bridge have not been able to use the bridge as of Wedensday 4:50 but restored  at 4:58 PM.

NJ Transit is cross honoring Newark passengers but have no idea how muvh delay the PATH passengers  are experiencing. ?  ncarrying i

This bridge has not been on the primary needed replacements but now ?  Our posters that think that all the ancient bridges do not need to be replaced may need to rethink that conclusion ?

The NEC is turning into a money pit.    They should abandon it and shift all remaining funds to long distance trains.Big Smile

Never, put the funds toward Monorails and Maglevs (with any leftover $$$ going to the Transatlantic Tunnel project)...

Think what they could do with the money they keep pissing away on that Roosevelt Tram that was supposed to be temporary.

I say bundle the NEC 'peace dividend' with a new stimulus: let's go with  supersonictubetrain.com  And the Onion's Infinibus for the intermediate routes (it's said to have Obama's support!).  With what's left over you could develop some "intermediate-length" routes with Elon Musk's Hyperloop.
