Tipping is not obligatory at any establishment, even your roadside diner. However, not tipping goes a long way in saying that even the best service is not worthy of decent remuneration.
I know of two instances where tips are baked into the check. My bar bill on Royal Caribbean International included a 15 per cent tip. Also, at many restaurants, a 15 per gratuity is included in the bill for parties of six or more.

Tipping in Australia, where I lived for five years, is not expected. However, if the service is exemplary, one can leave a 10 per cent tip, although few of my Aussie friends did so. If the service is sub-par, one can complain to the management, which addresses the argument of rewarding or not rewarding the server.
