629 spotted in Chicago this morning (12/22/14, 6:15 AM) on my inbound ride to work.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

If SEPTA orders new motors can that mean an extension of more

ACS-64s being built?  Siemens would certainly be in a very favorable position to win a contract.  Both price and delivery time.  As well a reciprocal SEPTA maintenance contract with Amtrak would help both operators.  Interchange of motors also possibile. Since Septa operates on the NEC units can be identical both equipment (125 MAS) and signaling.

631 was on Cal Z Jan 11.  If it arrived WASH the 13th that would mean no deliveries for one month.  Any one know why ?  Possibilities  ---

1.  Operative motors available became too tight on NEC accelerating deliveries ?

2.  Major hardware and software changes being performed at factory before being sent east ?  Possible if now enough motors available for NEC.  This speculation comes from the much better on time performance the past several months.

3.  Financial constraints ?

4.  Concerns about dispatch east during extreme winter weather ?

629 & 630 reported bracketing a three car train yesterday on the Harrisburg line.  Saw u tube of them bracketing a 3 car train today on the Hell Gate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW6cnRBMbjU

This first test will establish that any 2 units will work end to end of train on longer trains.  Note:  This was never able to be done with HHP-8s and only some AEM-7s due to a different throttle control than standard 8 position throttle.

Here is a picture of the returning bracket train heading west near New Haven.  Picture is at the rear of train.  What is interesting is how snow swirls aroud the rear of a train and sticks to all surfaces.

I rode #30, arriving in D.C. today (3/31). The 639 was deadheading, as is customary, behind the engines. A Superliner diner was also deadheading, but on the end of the train. Maybe they were rotating out an Autotrain diner? Finally, they were still using a Heritage baggage car.

Found picture of 640 enroute April 3rd.. Nothing for 641 yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L8--smZ8PU&feature=youtu.be

with 28 AEM-7ACs still in service once 600 - 641 are cleared for unlimited service that will give Amtrak 70 motors to operate on the NEC.  That will be the same number of ACS-64s that are on order.  Any further ACS-64 cleared for unlimited service may allow for retirements starting of the AEM-7ACs.
