Once again another failure of train # 91 south of Aberdene on the NEC. Loco motor failed completely with no HEP. Passengers transferred to other trains to WASH. Disposition south of WASH not know at this time .

The first article posted indicates the passengers were without air conditioning. The second article blames the incident on a bad wheel set of an old dining car. Especially considering there were two engines, the first explanation seems unlikely, but one wonders where that information came from.
In a two engine configuration, is there some technical reason that prohibits either engine from providing the HEP?

Two different unconnected incidents on the same train identity on different days in different locations on different railroads. Outside of that the train number was the same.
