About the new AMTRAK Northeast Corridor engines does this mean they are TOTALY replasing the AEM-7s for good or just using them both?? Someone please explain this to me. Thanks so much.
Dan
As I understand it the AEM-7's are getting to the end of their service lives and nothing Amtraks shop forces do or whatever skills or genius they pocess can reverse the ravages of 30-plus years of hard service. They were good locomotives, they won't disappear overnight, but they just can't go on forever. "Past economical repair" is a term I think we're all familiar with. It can apply to cars, locomotives, ships, airplanes, you name it.
