International Moscow - Beijing tourist train makes first journey on August 15

The international Moscow - Beijing tourist service is a joint project between two tour operators, RZD Tour and Intourist. The launch of this new service on 15 August 2011 is an important stage in the development of international rail tourism.

Tourists from 20 countries from Latin America, Asia, Australia and Europe will be on the train’s first run.

The train will arrive in Beijing on August 29. Tourists are also offered the return trip from Beijing to Moscow, which departs from the Chinese capital on 20 August and arrives in Moscow on 4 September.

The Moscow - Beijing train consists of 21 carriages as follows:

  • Compartments for 3 or 4 passengers
  • Sleeping cars with accommodation for 1 or 2 passengers
  • Luxury compartments for one or two passengers

The train also has two restaurant cars, a bar carriage, a dining car and a special carriage with shower cabins for passengers in the sleeping carriages. Passengers in the luxury carriages will be able to take a shower directly in their compartment.

The Moscow - Beijing Train will stop en route and offer excursion programmes around the cities of Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Ulan Bator and Erlian, as well as a guided tour to Lake Baikal.

During their journey, passengers will be able to enjoy ethnic and national cuisine and have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of delicacies. Live entertainment is also on offer.

A multi-lingual service in seven foreign languages ensures that passengers will be well-looked after..."

Someone has surely mis-figured their schedule

[Maybe this is the way they get their labor out there?]  You can get there, just  can't get back.]

Maybe the promoters only figured that passenger would want to go one way?  Of  course those that need to return can take the regular Trans Siberian Express Question or better know as the dismal express.

I sort of thought that the schedule anomaly was akin to the story about the product: Roach Motel. The Roaches  can check in , but can't check out?  Whistling

Maybe the Chinese are hoping to entice Russian workers to move to Beijing ?Pirate

Obviously this could be some sort of typo or translation error.

But, it sure appears that this is a rail cruise trip, and so most people would probably only be riding one-way anyway, and going in the other direction by air.  Then, the only odd part is that this sort of scheduling requires 2 sets of equipment.
