A very nice surprise at Rocklin today on the eastbound # 6 and two passengers boarded this train also.
This is # 5 westbound at Newcastle on the 13th.
Nice pictures. The Rio Grande car in gold and silver - not originally DRG&W is it? And what are the roots of the trailing obs.?

The 'tail car' is the "Virginia City", AAPRCO #800313. Quoting the AAPRCO "2010 Private Car Charter Guide", it was Pullman-built in 1928 as the "Crystal Peak" for UP's "Overland Limited". It was re-named " "Golden Peak" in 1938 (in celebration of my birthday. Har!) and assigned to the "Golden State Limited". Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg purchased it in 1954. It is restored to its 1955 status. It is owned by Virginia City Rail Corp. in Redwood City, CA. Check www.vcrail.com for more info.

Thanks for the information about the Virgina City. I was not sure what car this was when I saw it today, but it did look good.
I always liked the Santa Fe Pleasure Domes and the 503 is about sixty years old this year.

Thanks. I don't know if the Rio Grande car is a paint job only or was an orginal. Maybe someone else can fill us in.

All six of the original Pleasure Dome cars still exist.

Great news that they all are still intact. Are they all Amtrak certified or just in storage??
Thanks

I couldn't answer that question, I just know they exist.
Sorry. I have been very busy rejoicing over Senator Brown's victory in Massachussetts. I will go to the AAPRCO "Member's Site" and see if I can find out about the AT&SF #503 -- PPCX 800392. About the D&RGW-painted car, I haven't a clue. I can't read the name, or PV number, on this old computer. More forthcoming, I am sure.

I was not sure about the condition of the remaining Pleasure Domes but finding out all of them still exist is great news. It might because most if not all went to Amtrak and were updated to the new AC heating and air conditioning.
Rejoice on!

There is a list of surviving ATSF passenger cars on Q Station.
Actually the link http://www.trainweb.org/jssand/Captive/CapSFPass.htm is on Q Station.

Regards the Rio Grande car; it is a P-S product, 1950, I believe, and was part of that huge C&O order, which was broken up before delivery, and the Rio Grande pruchased a few of that order, including this cafe-lounge, which once was assigned to the Denver-Pueblo-Salt Lake City Rio Gorge. AA
