Last Remnant of the fabled Orient Express ends in December

The last remnant of the Orient Express, EuroNight trains 468/469, which has been cut back to just a Strasbourg to Wien train will be eliminated at the December timetable change. Passenger will still be able to travel from Paris to Wien by sleeper, but will have to change trains in Munich.

There is no CityNightLine train from Zürich to Vienna, no EuroNight either. From Zürich your choices are an InterCity to Munich to catch the same EuroNight recommended from Paris, or a couple of regional trains to Feldkirch, Austria to catch EuroNight 347 to Vienna, either way more difficult. No matter which way you go after December 12th, 2009 you will have to manage your luggage on a local train somewhere, as the surviving EuroNight from Munich, EuroNight 463, is a train to Budapest, and as such it serves Vienna via St.Pölten, at least until either Vienna Central Station is completed, or it too is dropped.

A real pity I was going to ride the Orient Express my last trip to Europe but put it off. Now I will definitely start making plans for the Blue Train another on my list of trains I must ride. I have ridden the Indian Pacific, The Canadian, American Orient Express and many of the US trains before Amtrak but guess I will miss the true Orient Express. I am phoning my travel agent in the morning for a trip on the Blue Train.

The "Orient Express" being canceled is the passenger train to get somewhere, not the luxury cruise train which is called the "Venice Simplon Orient Express" and is a luxury train from London to Venice. Further to confuse things Agatha Christie's story is set on the "Simplon Orient Express" a companion train to the "Orient Express" which was canceled a number of years ago. The "Simplon Orient Express" took the route via Geneva, Milan, Trieste, and through the Balkan countries, while the "Orient Express went via Munich, Vienna, Budapest, Sofia, and Bucharest. Pardon me while I reorient myself after that one

sorry to hear that.  I'd always hoped to ride it someday, but with the state of the economy, I don't think I'll ever get back to Europe and certainly won't be able to ride this.  I would like to ride the TGV, but don't see that happening either.

 Yes, its just not as convenient as it has been. No through train anymore, at least after December.
