Cresent #20 15:10 late already
Posted by blue streak 1 on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 3:31 PM

The July 14th northbound Cresent departed Tuscaloosa on time and arrived Birmingham 10:22 late. Left birmingham 10:22 late and arrived ATlanta 15:10 late. Was observed being serviced at !!:20 in Atlanta and is due in CLt about 16:45. No information on the reason for the double delay!

That really gums things up at NY Penn Station when they arrive that far off schedule.

Since they just turn around and depart at NYC, it will also wreak havok with the schedule of the southbound Crescent on the next day.

Did it go by way of Opelika (CG Bhm to Opelika, WPRte to Atlanta)? Or did it go by way of Montgomery (L&N Bhm to Montgomery, WPRte to Atlanta)?

FYI, Waco is jsut west of Bremen.

Does some one know: it should have gone BHM - LaGrange, Ga on CSX ABC route and then A&WP LaGrange - ATL.

Yes, that is the shortest detour since the SAL Atlanta-Birmingham line was severed many years ago.

I expect that it took several hours to arrange the detour which is why the train was so late leaving Birmingham.

The train was en route to ATL when it had to turn back to Bham. That took some time. Scrounging up a CSX pilot plus taxiing in an Amtrak relief crew (from whereever their extra board for this job is located) took some time, too. Arranging the deal with CSX probably was pretty simple.
