Other than a couple of brief items on Train's News Wire, I have seen nothing regarding the unexpected retirement of Inspector General Weiderhold nor his replacement by Lorraine Green.  Especially since Ms. Green's experience in Human Relations is not exactly an outstanding qualification for her new post, I suspect there is much more here than we know.  Perhaps Congressional questioning will bring out the story.

Since when has technical competence and experience been a qualification for appointment to a Federal position?  Obviously, somebody must think that human resources take precedence over infrastructure, equipment and on-time performance.

There is a newspaper column suggesting the IG was complaining that negative information regarding Amtrak was being withheld/suppressed.  The column is here:  Malkin: Railroading Amtrak's whistle-blower | argusleader.com | Argus Leader

Weiderhold's mistake is that he thought that Amtrak was a real business.

Just shows we need an opposition party and commentators to keep everyone more honest.

How can corporations and government agencies use outside legal counsel and other strategies as a shield against a required audit?

Regardless, this totally contravenes the espoused principle of transparency where billions of dollars are involved.  From my experience, this is an ongoing corporate mindset, not new with Pres Obama, that only feeds reactionary opposition to Amtrak rather than addressing the issues openly and honestly.
