Services on the "San Joaquins"
Posted by DavidBragdon on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 12:21 AM

Trains magazine recently made passing reference to on-board service upgrades on the "San Joaquin" trains.  (Note that they currently do not offer first class service.)  Does anyone know what these upgrades might be like?

I ride the "San Joaquin" regularly and haven't seen any on-board service upgrades. They did release a new menu but that happens every few months. However, if someone has a question, you can ask the conductors on the lower level of the cafe car. Maybe its the equipment. California has been purchasing wrecked Superliner cars and having them rebuilt and put into service. Two are painted in Amtrak California colors and one is in Pacific Surliner colors. On my last trip it was interesting. On southbound runs, the cab car leads and the end door usually is covered. But it wasn't so I had a view over the engineers shoulder the entire way home.
