Will Amtrak possibly run the Portland Rose route again?

Hello to all !

I have heard small talk of Amtrak and UP possibly opening the "Portland Rose" route again here in the north west????????

it would be Great if it did, with fuel prices at the level they are.

I am not alone here........ Amtrak and UP would find a big welcome here if it was running again here !!!!!Smile [:)]

Thank You and Take Care,

Considering that the "Pioneer" was discontinued in 1997, I find it quite unlikely that any talk of reinstating passenger service on that route is more substantial than wishful thinking.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Having ridden the Pioneer on many occasions and always finding it filled in the sleeper and the coaches were well patronized  as well. I for one was surprised that the Sunset is still operating. The Desert Wind always seemed to operate at or near full capacity for most of its journey as well. The better move for Amtrak would have been to discontinue the Sunset and keep the other two.

Now that we are just beginning to feel the oil price increases and many people are discovering passenger trains for the first time there is some hope.

Only after money is found and used to restore some of the parked for future repair passenger equipment.

I agree with your comment, but I think the repaired Superliners could be put to better use adding them to existing trains like the Coast Starlights that are showing untold growth. If the Pioneer and Desert Wind ever run again it will be when new equipment is purchased and enters service.
