And weekend passes wont work on the South Shore. Getting Transit info is a hodge podge of confusion. Metra N side service wont give info about S Side Metra Electric lines.CTA EL trains dont have METRA info and vice versa. Seems that that each of the transit companies think that they are in compition with each other. and also for what ever reason Hammond IN buses do not meet Pace Buses for transfers.
First things first, South Shore doesn't honor Metra weekend passes or any other tickets because it's not part of Metra or even the RTA. There are no transfers between PACE and Hammond Transit for similar reasons.
This reminds me of a college roommate -- the same one who said he was having trouble getting his Fairlane with Ford-O-Matic to go into third gear -- who had done a bit of 'riding the rails'. He was complaining about those Hydra-Cushion boxcars because, he said, they didn't seem to ride any more softly than ordinary boxcars...
Not sure about all this whining.
When I last traveled to Chicagoland about 14 years ago I discovered the RTA system map that shows all rail stations and major rail / bus routes in the region. Once I had that paper map, everything else was pretty easy peasy.

For Metra and CTA info, most folks use an app (like Ventra) or the websites.

On further observation, it appears that the OP is averse to putting in a little effort to obtain said information on his own. By analogy, he sounds like he would expect the NYCTA agent at Stillwell Avenue to know detailed informations about connections to Metro North at GCT or NJ Transit at Penn Station.

On one trip, on which I planned to ride a Metra line I had not ridden before, I was able to tell a good frined of mine which train I planned to take from Union Station--and he came in so we had a pleasant ride together.

No, three systems.
Chicago? Isn't that city still applying the labor theories of Chairman Mao to highway toll collection...........lol. Then there are the Metra people warehouses in the major train stations downtown selling rail tickets the old fashioned way when a vending machine could do the same.

Then there are the Metra people warehouses in the major train stations downtown selling rail tickets the old fashioned way when a vending machine could do the same. Last time I used the Tri-State, the I-Pass attached to my windshield took care of the tolls without stopping. Almost all toll booths on the Tollway system are unmanned. As far as Metra is concerned, manned ticket agencies still exist because the entire world doesn't have smart phones or many riders prefer not to use debit cards.
And of course the City of Chicago doesn't collect any tolls. All of the Toll Road system is outside the city, but details details!

There have been vending machines in the major downtown terminals for over 5 years....
