Jerusalem started having low-floor Egged Local Buses in 2000 and by 2014, all local Egged rouite3s had low-floors 100%. Articualte3d low-floors came aboiut one year after the standard type. Light Rail, opened in 2013, was low-floor form the start. But the big innovation was all door entrance and ticket vlidation, butnot payment, on board. Well, now. this had appeared on the heaviest of the local Egged bus routes/ And the newer artics have four doors or even five doors . instead of three, all double-doors. Three in the front body and two in the rear body. And the green paint is now supllemented by a lot of silver.
Like 40% of the right side seems to be doors!
And the drivers on the 275 that I use from the back door of the Yeshiva to get downtown in a hurry and don't mind paying an elderly ("kabir") fair instead of just using my monthly pass, have started buying low-floors also. But still cardboard multi-rides and cash. Much greater variety of manufacturers than Egged. Last time I took the 275 downtown, I rode an Izuzi. Three single doors on the side, a little shorter than the usual standard bus. Have not seen any artics on the gold four-pointed start within a wheel system yet, either.
None of the low-floors have the really supurb ride quality of the old Mercedes high-floor step-up buses. But the Polish Polaris (make railcars also) is better than the MAN (Hungarian). But the newer MANs are a bit better than the first ones.
But no bus can compare to the smooth ride on the light rail.
