The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) on Monday launched its positive train control (PTC) system on the Fox Chase Line commuter-rail route.
Deploying the technology may result in operational and system adjustments, so agency officials are carefully measuring on-time performance standards, according to SEPTA's most recent PTC update. Implementing PTC will enable SEPTA to regulate train separation, avoid train-to-train collisions at track crossover locations, enforce line speed continuously and protect rail workers in wayside areas, SEPTA officials said."We are proud to be at the forefront of a nationwide effort to meet a federal mandate to install PTC on our regional rail network," agency officials added.Last month, the agency kicked off PTC operations on its Warminster Line. The next PTC launch will occur on the Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line, though SEPTA hasn't yet announced a start date.
