Chicago Pink Line Service Disruption
Posted by rcdrye on Thursday, March 31, 2016 7:33 PM

Since March 28 the Pink Line has been diverted down the ramp to the Blue Line Racine Station with loop-bound passengers transferring there.  A fire in the control hut at Lake and Ashland has taken the interlocking there out of service.  CTA did not have an explanation of the fire or a schedule for service restoration as of noon today.

Are you sure they insist the passengers transfer?   Would make much more sense to run the trains to the first available reversing point north of Deaborn and Lake Streets.

There's a pocket track ("Morgan Middle") just east of the Racine station between the main tracks.  No similar pocket is available in the Loop or within a reasonable distance. (There are crossovers east of LaSalle and south of Grand, next pocket is at Jefferson Park) Since the Blue Line is already operating on 7 minute headways using the Morgan pocket seems the best way to avoid even more disruptions.  In any case the signal hut has been repaired and the Pink Line is back in normal service.
