In 1976 I rode Rome to Naples to Sorrento, stayed in Sorento, including a day trip on a hydrofoil to Capri, and a ride on a funicular, or inclined railway.

During the week or so that we, that is my high school group, stayed in Sorento we also took a day trip to Pompei, which involved changing trains.

At the end of the wek we rode back to Naples, and then to Rome.

I don't remember anything wrong about schedule frequency or connections, the equipment was multi-section articulated cars, I think 3 sections per car, and probably at least 2 or 4 car trains.

Of course a lot could have happened, both good and bad since 1976.

I think this is the same route that we rode in ?2008? while on a cruise.  We went as far as Pompeii (very hot midday in June).

Train ride was OK, but memories were mostly about Pompeii....

We will be going to Italy next spring and plan to travel from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuvia train. Would appreciate any tips or first hand experience.
