Just opened - Lisbon's new 'Chiado' line
Posted by Mario_v on Friday, May 29, 2015 1:35 PM

Hello all ;

Tourism is provocating some 'miracle' here in Lisbon. And in this case the miracle is the reopening of a dormant trolley line that has been out of use for almost 20 years. In this case only a sort section having a little more than a mile long was opened, but there are already some plans to extend the service further, at least to  other parts of the city, sort of creating a new network (next year it is expected that this new line will reach Carmo, but a connecting track will have to be built, besides other minor modifications, at an expected cost of 360.000 €). And this reopening was possible in a quick manner due because all track and contact wire has been in place since the line lost its regular sevice. It's a tourist line, with tickets costing €6.00 for adults and € 3.00 for chilren, and these allow hop on-hop off type ridings, besides being valid for the whole time of operation of the line. Also the cars used in the line are worthy of note ; vintage trolleys dating from the late 1930s. Just to show you how it was the official inaugural run I'll add a link to one of our online newspapers with an accelerated video showing it.  Hope you enjoy it.
