I don't have much more to say, as I don't live in Milwaukee, and most of the business I do in town is in the burbs. I heard about it on radio when I stopped for lunch. I just don't understand how this works in Wisconsin weather. Isn't that part of the reasons that such a system was abandoned in the 50's ? But, according to some of the promoters, "Hey, part of the cost is from free money from the feds !" I won't go any deeper.

Never thought I would live to see the day that Milwaukee voted yes to any rail downtown. Now lets see if they can actually build it or commit to it's construction before the political winds change again.
Dallas already has installed part of it's new Oak Cliff streetcar line from Union Station up the ramp of the Houston Street Viaduct where it stops. Interestingly it also build a connector track next to Union Station that connects the Street Car to DART or light rail. I am curious if that is to haul the streetcars to a shared maintenence facility or if they will actually share routes at some point with the light rail. Overhead wire voltage appears to be compatible with existing DART wire at least.
I live in one of Milwaukees' burbs. The Mayors' trolley is a farce. It would basically run in a two mile loop with some lines going to different areas such as UWM, intermode station and such. Taking that money to buy more buses and provide "bus only lanes is best. Now if they weren't cutting bus services, raising fares and were making money, I could agree with this. Milwaukee population density does not make it reasonable at this time for trolleys. They are trying to improve the freeway system at this time for more traffic flow.
