New York's rapid transit system is now currently free of grade crossings. After unification, only two existed. The one with regular passenger service was at the north end of the EAst 55th Street station on the Canarsie Line. now "L", then "16". The other was a non-revenue single-track crossing of Lexington Avnue between 99th and 100th Streets, tieing two halves of the Third Avenue Elevated's car shops together. A pedestrian bridge with elevators for the handicapped and acess to the center-platform station exists now at E55.
The 3rd AVe. El's car shops were built before Lexington AVenue was opened. They were retained by the IRT to continue maintaing and repairing the bodies of wood cars. They continiued to perform the inspections for the elevated.

NP Eddie Based on the short view of the chase and CTA train at that crossing, is anyone able to tell where the crossing is?

The crossing is at Rockwell St. On the Brown Line. Note the business visible several times named Rockwell Crossing.
NP Eddie Last night's "Chicago PD" showed a chase for bad guys. Where was the at grade crossing shown? How many grade crossings are on the CTA? I assume that the power from the rear of the train propells the train across the crossing and then the forward part of the train picks up current from the other side of the crossing. Do the power contacts have to be raised when doing that? Where does most of the filming for "Chicago PD" take place? Ed Burns Happily Retired NP-BN-BNSF from Minneapolis

CTA uses gravity-contact third-rail shoes so they aren't raised. The third rail is fitted with a ramp at any place where a gap occurs, such as switches and crossings of all sorts.
As best as I can tell, much of "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago PD" is filmed in neighborhoods within a 5-mile radius of the Loop. The usual amount of artistic license is taken with street addresses so don't use those to give away location. The firehouse for "Chicago Fire" is a working firehouse on Blue Island Ave. a few blocks east of Ashland.
CTA inherited a lot of grade crossings from Chicago Rapid Transit. Today's Blue line Forest Park branch has none, but the predecessor Garfield Park crossed many streets (and one railroad) at grade, admittedly on CA&E track. Before November 1962 Lake Street operated at ground level next to the C&NW embankment (today's UP-West) that it occupies today. Evanston, Skokie (ex-CNS&M) and Lake had overhead wire (replaced by third rail). Ravenswood and Douglas Park (Brown and Pink) always had third rail with gaps, as did Garfield Park (blue) and the long-gone Westchester branch.
And the west end of the Pink Line. And in the suburbs on the northern ends of the Purple (Evanston) and Yellow (Skokie) Lines.
Grade crossings for CTA L trains are on the west end of the Brown Line.
