Jerusalem’s light rail to be extended by 5 stops

LAST UPDATED: 08/13/2014 17:18

The Jerusalem Municipality, in coordination with the Transportation Ministry, announced Wednesday that it will begin extending the capital’s light rail to five more locations in the coming weeks. According to a statement issued by the municipality, the train service will be extended to the neighborhoods of Kiryat Yovel, Ir Ganim and Kiryat Menahem, as well as to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and to Hebrew University’s Givat Ram and Mount Scopus campuses.

Nadav Meroz, CEO of the Jerusalem Transportation Master Plan, praised Mayor Nir Barkat and the ministry for assisting in the project, and noted the benefits the light rail has provided the city’s urban development since it was introduced in 2011. “Today everyone is aware of the benefits of the train and its large contribution to the quality of life and urban environment by upgrading infrastructure, sustainability and development,” he said.
