M-10000 operates on Metra!
Posted by CSSHEGEWISCH on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 12:04 PM

For several years now, Metra has sponsored a safety poster contest for schoolchildren grades 1-12 in its service area.  Winning poster designs are displayed on station bulletin boards and on monthly tickets.  I purchased my monthly ticket for March today and M-10000 in Metra colors is on the ticket.Big Smile

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Well that must be cool!  Is there any way you can post a picture or let us know where we can see a sample?

I checked the Metra site and it had some posters for the current contest, but not that one.

But some day you will see the Flying Yankee (near-twin of the Pioneer Zephyr) actually run on the Boston "T" network!    Has not the Nebraska Zephyr made an appearance on Chicago's METRA?

It did actually run in from the Illinois Railway Museum to West Chicago a few years ago.   But that was on the UP line that goes to Belvidere, normally freight-only.   A fantastic sight.

The Nebraska Zephyr ran all the way to Galesburg over the Mendota Sub a year or two ago.  UP brought it into Union Station and Amtrak crews ran the special.  See First and Fastest Spring 2013 issue.
