MNRR upgrading NH line 60 HZ
Posted by blue streak 1 on Sunday, February 9, 2014 10:26 PM

Cos cob is getting new transformers.  Wonder if old ones were 25 Hz of old system ( which might have worked or 60 Hz ) .  It may be that old ones did not have enough capacity ? Most transformers have a very long in service life. Just one more item that shows MNRR is open and trying to stay ahead of any past or future problems.

The 25Hz transformers were removed when the line was converted to 60Hz approximately 32 years ago.  Advances in metalugy and insulation material over those 32 years permit transformers of a specific given size to handle about 50% more power.
