I saw several trains sitting along the main just a few days prior to your post. I don't think they realize that constant operation will help out tremendously. Granted, I'm going off what the M-Line does, but it should help at least keep ice off the catenary.
Blue Alert! We're at Blue Alert! Aw crap, it's a nondescript GEVO... Cancel Blue Alert!
DART is just about up to speed except for the blue line.
excerpt:
At this time (8:30 p.m. Monday) only the Blue Line from LBJ/Skillman to Rowlett is not operating. Bus shuttles will remain in place. All other DART Rail lines are operating a regular weekday schedule. Click here to view more information about the DART Rail Disruption Bus Shuttles. We are still working to restore service on this nine mile section of the Blue Line, but it is not expected to happen before Tuesday afternoon due to the extent of ice buildup, cold temperatures and lack of sunshine to help melt the ice. Blue Line customers from Rowlett and Garland can find parking and rail service at the LBJ/Skillman Station, located north of Interstate 635 between Skillman Street and Miller Road. Parking and express bus service to Downtown Dallas via Route 283 is available from the Lake Ray Hubbard Transit Center, located on Duck Creek Drive west of Broadway (Belt Line Road) in Garland. As of 8:30 p.m., DART Rail operates on a regular schedule as follows:
At 1 p.m. Monday, service was restored to the Red Line north of LBJ Central to Parker Road and on the Green Line from Bachman north to North Carrollton/Frankford, opening the full Red and Green lines. The DART Rail Orange Line from LBJ/Central to Belt Line station in Irving opened at 3:30 p.m. Monday.DART buses are operating normally given local road conditions. The TRE continues to operate its regular weekday schedule.Customers can receive updates via DART.org and on Twitter @dartalerts.We appreciate your continued patience as we work to restore all rail service.http://www.dart.org/rideralerts/fullra.asp?id=1984
DART light rail ( Dallas, Tx ) has been having a lot of problems with the ice storm Sunday and the ice fog today. First link says they were using ice melt to clear switches. IMHO a hi rail truck equipped with a heater to blow on the switches would be an idea to consider before the next ice storm approaches.

In addition maybe all light rail operations should consider this option ? The unit does not need to be permanent attached to any truck.
link to their statement about ice fog. probably will change fairly soon
