New Jersey Transit is beginning to use new larger light rail cars called stretch cars. Right now they are being used on the Hudson County line but NJT plans to move them around. (I assume they will not be used on the Riverline which uses diesel cars). The regular cars have seats for 68 people; the new cars have seats for 102.

They appear to have four trucks...that is quite long!

They are not the first to do this, it has been done by several European tram and light rail systems, Prague for one. Sometimes this has been adding a low-floor center section for handicapped access to older high-floor cars to extend their useful life.
Dallas is a prime example of adding low floor center sections.
