According to Wikipedia, they get a solid state propulsion control system, but keep the DC motors, trucks and gearboxes.

I believe they are going to AC.  I'm going to have to dig some.  I think it might be one powered truck per car with AC, too.

Some neat pix of work in progress.  Reusing those great Budd all stainless steel carbodies seems like a good decision.
