another mudslide between Seattle - Edmonds closes line to Amtrak and Sounder.

Here is bulletin

All Sounder Northline service from Everett, Mukilteo, and Edmonds to Seattle is cancelled for the morning commute on Friday, May 4, 2012 due to a mudslide.

First heavy rains this fall and sounder northline gets another mudslide.  so AMTRAK as well will be stopped at Edmonds.  definitely something needs doing.!!!!!

 

Northline Sounder service between Seattle and Everett is canceled for the evening commute on Monday, 11/19 because of mudslides.  Sounder northline trains will not be available until the Wednesday, 11/21 evening commute due to the 48 hour moratorium for passenger train service.

EVENING BACK – UP BUS SERVICE (northbound) Monday 11/19

Seattle-Edmonds: Board regularly scheduled Community Transit Route 416 at 5th and James St. at 4:27 p.m., 4:58 p.m., 5:31 p.m. and 5:57 p.m. for service to Edmonds

Seattle-Mukilteo: Board regularly scheduled Community Transit Route 417 at 4th Avenue S. and S. Jackson St. at 3:09 p.m., 3:59 p.m., 4:22 p.m., 4:50 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Seattle-Everett: Starline Charter buses will depart 4th Ave. S. and S. Jackson St. 4:33 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. with direct service to Everett Station. Riders may also board regularly scheduled ST Express Route 510 at 4th Ave S. and S Jackson.

  • Now more mudslides have caused further closures until Friday.  read report there were at least 8 different ones.  has been a lot of rain in Seattle area. from sounder

No service on Thanksgiving holiday 11/22.  We plan to resume service with a special schedule Friday 11/23 if no additional mudslides occur (see Day after Thanksgiving rider alert).

Northline Sounder service between Everett and Seattle is canceled for Friday, 11/23 the day after

Thanksgiving due to a mudslide earlier this morning.

We anticipate to resume regular Northline Sounder service on Monday, 11/26. However, due to

the weekend forecast of additional rainfall please check the website for updates prior to you

Monday morning commute.

* Southline Sounder service between Lakewood and Seattle is not impacted and will operate

as scheduled for the Friday Special Service.

If no further mudslides service would be expected to resume normal service on Tuesday morning 12/4.

well trains are running this morning but don't know how long due to many inches of rainfall.  line has been closed to AMTRAK  and sound transit for 7 days already since thanksgiving.

Northline Sounder service to Mukilteo and Everett is canceled for the evening commute on Tuesday, December 04, 2012, due to a mudslide that occurred between Edmonds and Mukilteo.

Northline Sounder service to Mukilteo and Everett remains canceled for the evening

commute on Wednesday, December 5, and the morning commute on Thursday,

 December 6, 2012, due to a mudslide that occurred Tuesday morning. Service

is scheduled to resume Thursday Evening, December 6, from King Street Station

to Everett Station, unless a new event occurs to alter this plan.

Partial Sounder service between Seattle and Edmonds will remain through the

Thursday morning commute.

that occurred on Tuesday morning.   If there are no additional mudslides occur, train service

It appears that this are for some reason has become very unstable when large rains 

occurr.  Wonder what the long range solution is and costs ?

after seeing the video of the BNSF intermodal getting hit by a mudslide I understand why BNSF does not allow passenger carrying trains for 48 hours afterward.

December 20 and all day Friday, December 21. The interruption of service is due to a another

mudslide that occurred Thursday morning.

another one today friday and more risk.  unconfirmed report of 10+ slides in one day ? Here is bulletin for sounder but nothing yet from AMTRAK. SOUNDER MAY START WEDENSDAY DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS.

Sounder Northline train service to the Seahawks’ game against the San Francisco 49ers this

Sunday is cancelled due to the risk of additional mudslides. Sounder holiday service previously

scheduled to operate Christmas Eve is also canceled.

If no other slide activity occurs, Northline Sounder service is expected to resume on Wednesday,

Dec. 26.

I don't remember if it was on the Flatwheel Cafe or Lounge thread (both on the General Forum) that one of the contributors mentioned the proliferation of parking lots on the side above the railroad grade. Apparently the paved surfaces of these lots prevents the precipitation from soaking into the ground as it used to, and send it to the slope immediately by the track. Should drains be installed in the surface of these lots so that the water can soak in as it used to? Something has to be done about the water that now soaks the ground immediately to the east of the right of way, it seems.

Apparently the paved surfaces of these lots prevents the precipitation from soaking into the ground as it used to, and send it to the slope immediately by the track. Should drains be installed in the surface of these lots so that the water can soak in as it used to? Something has to be done about the water that now soaks the ground immediately to the east of the right of way, it seems.

Hard surfaces are compromising our ground water in urban areas all over the country.  Most places don't have the severe and repeated mud slides you are having but there are a lot of other problems associated with all of the places we have paved over.  

Sub surface drainage is the answer.  But the water needs to be directed to places where it can recharge the aquifer and not just sent down a river.

Sounder Northline service has been canceled through Wednesday morning due to slope instability on

the north corridor. Sounder North service for Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the week will be

decided Wednesday morning as more definitive information becomes available.

Sounder Northline service has been canceled through Monday 12/31 and will not operate to the Seahawk's game against the St. Louis Rams due to slope instability on the north corridor. In observance of the New Year’s Day holiday, Sounder trains will not operate on Tuesday.

Burlington Northern will continually evaluate slope conditions to determine whether passenger rail service can resume on Wednesday January 2, 2013.

Everett-to-Seattle commuter rail service resumes Thursday, Jan. 3

Sounder service from Everett to Seattle will resume service tomorrow morning after mudslides closed the tracks last month.

Riders should expect some delays as track crews complete clean-up work along the rail line.

North Line Sounder service will operate as scheduled, with the first train leaving Everett Station at 5:45 a.m.  More North Line schedule information is available at http://www.soundtransit.org/Schedules/Sounder-Everett-Seattle.

If no additional mudslides occur, train service will resume for the Thursday, 1/10/13 morning commute.

Northline Sounder service between Everett and Seattle is canceled Thursday, March 21st thru Friday, March 22nd, due to a mudslide. Sound Transit will provide special buses with express service to and from Northline Sounder stations for the duration of this service disruption.
