Great. $3M each for commuter coaches....
Yeah. Put'em on Lay-away...Santa will pay for them at Christmas.
$3M will get you 7 or 8 brand new 45' MCI 55 seat buses.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
These are an entirely new design, although they will likely be very similar to the Multilevels that NJT already has. Last September, Transit signed a contract with Bombarder for a new Multilevel (Multilevel II, if you will), which is the order that MARC is tacking onto. NJT will take delivery summer 2012-summer 2013, with MARC taking deliveries beginning towards the end of NJT's delivery period.
And just a nitpick, but the current Multilevels are just Multilevels, not Comet VI's. Comets are single level cars.

More info: Cars will be 125 MPH to operate on Perryville - Baltimore - WASH NEC to allow for fluidity. $154M cost 80% Federal.

MARC will piggyback an order for 54 Multilevels onto the present NJ Transit order for Comet 6 Multilevels. MARC will start receiving them by spring 2013. Order is for 127 pass cab cars, 142 pass trailers, and 132 pass bathroom cars. Marc release does not state if cars will be identical to Comet 6s but that would allow for common parts availability..
Plans are to retire 26 single level cars and 12 gallery cars but bet that can change based on ridership by 2013 ?
