What are some anticipataged projects with the infastructure bill?
One is thorough reconfiguration of the rest of the Pennsylvania Station complex not part of the new Monyhan Building. Amtrak, NJT, LIRR, and MN are wrking together on this. They are studying keepig two levels above the platforms (as now)and just one level with increased ceiling heights.
Were the 2 levels above platforms at Penn Station part of the original configuration, or part of the reworking when much of the station was demolished in the 1960s ?
As far as I know, almost everything in those levels is new. There are a couple of places, mentioned in at least one Web site, where you can still find parts of original structure (I don't remember now what they were) but if you look at original pictures of the track access, that's gone.
If I recall correctly they're essentially keeping the 'upper' of two levels to create larger space, but that's like restoring the bowling alley at GCT... there is no grand original architecture to be revealed, only opportunities to rebuild the artistic equivalent of a drop ceiling.
But nearly anything is preferable to scuttling in and out like a rat
