Volusia county Florida votes to provide its share of funds to extend Sun Rail north from DeBarry to Deland. Debarry is presently a one track stub termination of Sun Rail east of the mainline. It is about 3 miles north of Sanford. Deland Sun Rail station apparently (?) going to be part of Amtrak Deland station (?) although well west of downtown Deland.
Sun Rail contractor already dispatches the track from Debarry to Deland where Amtrak takes over it going farther north. Last time there the ACL signaling system north of Debarry was still old pole line CTC searchlight signaling system.
What is needed is for Volusia county is to have the Sun Rail agency to somehow extend new tracks ~ 20 - 24 miles to downtown Daytona Beach with a stop near or at the raceway. That would probably require some puzzling routing of new track along maybe I-4 and also some near Daytona. Maybe that could be one of Biden's funding for regional transit ?

Over the past several years the I-4, I-95 interchange at Daytona has been rebuilt into a puzzle - a puzzle that is easy to screw up. I can't imagine trying to weave a rail line though the maze.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

As someone who has spent far more time in Talladega-related traffic on I-20 than I care to remember -- a possible alternative service might be an Auto-Train like extended service capable of accommodating all those RVs and trailer-towing vehicles, perhaps circus-loaded and unloaded, together with a few cars of amenities. This would bring large numbers of vehicles in to the race complex with minimal congestion, and then remove them either to 'satellite' loading points (comparable to Lorton or Sanford geographically?) which might be a considerable distance away from congested areas.

Wouldn't this be for FEC? Load at Jax or have feeder trains thru NS and CSX from other spots. I do agree that SunRail to DB makes more sense. Especially with the Deadland station so far from town. SU '74. I do remember locals coming into town just south of campus.
SunRail is using the former CSX 'A' Line which basically goes North from Deland toward Jacksonville on the West side of the St. Johns River. Anything built to Daytona would be out of face brand new construction that would require land acquisition as well as all the environmental assesments etc. etc. etc.

I don't see how that is "needed". There doesn't seem to be that much commuter traffic between Daytona and Orlando. Most of the time when I drive I4 between the two cities, it is filled with out of state plates, no doubt going to see Harry or Mickey.
