SMART to cancel selected weekday train trips due to shelter-in-place orders for Marin and Sonoma counties
Petaluma, CA— In response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and shelter in place orders for Sonoma and Marin counties, the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District is temporarily canceling the following train trips:
  • Southbound 7:10 AM out of the Sonoma County Airport station
  • Northbound 8:46 AM out of the Larkspur station
  • Southbound 4:29 PM out of the Sonoma County Airport station
  • Northbound 6:05 PM out of the Larkspur station

This schedule change is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. SMART is adjusting the weekday schedule based on ridership demand and is temporarily eliminating these trips to minimize impacts to the overall schedule.

These changes are in addition to the temporary cancellation of all weekend train service, which SMART announced on Monday, March 16, 2020.

SMART continues to monitor this dynamic situation and will make adjustments as necessary, on a day-to-day basis. Please view the train schedule online at SonomaMarinTrain.org/schedules-fares.

SMART is committed to providing an essential public transit service for the North Bay, with the health and safety of the community and SMART staff as our top priority. Heard on train announcements yesterday that Metra may initiate service cutbacks beginning next week.

IL is now banning people from its rail trails so walking riding a bike may not be a option even if there is no trains

I don't view Brightline as a transit or commuter rail operation, but it is under this heading, so what the heck.

As a regular rider I just got an email saying that Brightline has suspeneded operations.  OK, I am pushing regular rider since I have only ridden it twice.  I hope it comes back.

I’m not surprised that they’re cancelling services, it’s a good move. Even in my area, they cancelled the services but even with them reopening now, not many people are using as they still are paranoid.

Metra is starting to increase service on some routes beginning today.  It's going to be a while before full service is reinstated.
