And some news on proposed expansion.

Multiple Youtube authors have posted South Shore cab rides.  I've watched most of them.  It's possible to see the all electrified CSS&SB mileage on Youtube, although one needs to watch it in segments because of Youtube time limitations, I suppose.

I saw the write-up in today's Trib.  I'm not too surprised about the necessity of re-routing US 12 west of Miller.  The current single-track main is boxed in by US 12 on the south and 7th Avenue (a local arterial street) on the north.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I'm taking a great interest in the proposed dual-tracking of the Chicago South Shore, which has become controversial due to loss of Ardmore resident's homes.

I have often wondered why the former NS track running past Carrol Avenue Yard towards the AMTK line at Michigan City was not kept intact or re-instated over Trail Creek so that CSS Freight Trains could briefly run on the AMTK, pass-by NIPSCO and regain the CSS line just just to the east of 10th St. thus avoiding street-running along W10th & 11th St. (Yeah I know, a sacrilegious thought) I realize that Highway 12 (E 2nd St.) is in the way!

This would have saved finding slots for Freight Trains within the Passenger timetable along the 10th & 11th St. section of the route and possibly avoid the need to dual it?

You will have to excuse me if I'm writing about something I'm not fully aware of, but I'm here in (Old) York, England and relying on Trains community and the www for news and updates.

Lazers, I also wondered the same thing myself.  Even running passenger trains on the line would have gotten them closer to the Amtrak station and downtown.
