The MBTA has announced it will spend $7 million plus to overhaul the PCC's. Good News. But it will also spend one million pluis to study the future of the line, to decide what should be done in the earlyi 2020's. I think this studey is colossal stupidity. First, one cannot predict with certainty what the ridership will be then. It mnay grow to suggest extension of third rail rapid transit south from Ashmont to Mattapan, or it may remain within the parameters of light rail continiuing to be appropriate. Better wait and study the issue closer to the decision time. And the technology of the line isn't any different than that of the Green Line and Riverside in particular. The Green Line equipment would be perfectly happy running Ashmont -Mattapan. SF, Philly, Kenosha, and soon El Paso, have experience in restoring and operating PCCs, and it is not a special issiue for Boston. Other equipment may also be avialble. The one million rigiht now should be spent in further improving winter reliability and service.
+What? No Boston-qrea readers? Surprised by lack of comment. Forone million they should get an in-depth analysis of the entire operation, not just this infinitesamal tiny portion.
