The final EIS for the WASK bridge is out with close of comments.  CT DOT is announcing various work schedules.

Now utility location work starts Monday. It is called pre construction activity. No matter how good or bad records are there will be surprises.  This work to limit the unknowns.

Starting in May the new CP 243 begin to be built/  That will allow for just ~2 mile strech of 2 MT over WALK for about 30 months. (see above EIS)  Note the 2 miles will be extended occassionally as CT DOT replaces 2 fixed spans. See this link and click on CP243. Will take about 2 years.

As well the Danbury branch will get ~ 2 miles of CAT to Danbury branch Dock yard.  Suspect it is to store EMUs that will terminate at Norwalk ? Also linked in above link.  Will take about 2 years.

Actual costruction slated to start about 2 years tenative FEB 2019.

The Executive summary page  ES-14 has time line.

wording from EIS statement : he Danbury Branch Dockyard Project, required to facilitate rail operations during construction of the Walk Bridge, is scheduled to start construction in early 2017. This work will consist of adding track sidings, signal work and electrification to the southern end of the Danbury Branch from where the Danbury Line splits off the main line to one mile north, in the area formerly known as the Dock Yard. The project is expected to last approximately two years and there will be minimal impact to the local roadway network as a result of this project.

Now ther Amtrak report states that the Devon bridge is the next worse bridge and could fail and sever the NEC east of Straford  ( Bridgeport ) .  Since Walk is not scheduled completion till 2024 this really poses a problem.  Anyone know what kind of bridge Devon is ? swing, lift, bascule, Double bascule , or other ?

See page 11 of this link !

See Bridgehunter:

Click thru the photos and you can see it is 2 side-by-side bascules.  Under Catagories it also notes Bascule.

Some progress is becoming apparent.  MNRR is installing bridge plats over 3 stations to east of the bridge.  This probably is to install the CP switch east of the Bridge on track 3 to connect to track 1?  Has anyone noted if the switch on track 1 is in place yet?

MNRR bulletins.
