Why is the "hill track connection" out of service? I does not make any sense to me. It they would rebuild the track from the Riverline shed to Trenton station, it would allow a straight forward connection for freights to enter the Northeast Corridor line at Trenton from the Brodentown Secondary aka Riverline.
What freights would use the connection? Doesn't CSX or Conrail Shared run straight north on the old Camden and Ambay just to avoid using the NEC with Amtrak charges? You can get from Camden to the Hudson River waterfront without using the NEC. The four tracks between Trenton and Newark have the heaviest traffic, 99% passenger, of any railroad line in the USA, and often one of the four is out-of-service for maintenace, either track or catenary.
I believe that the old Camden and Amboy track is out of service. Then why did trains use the hill track up to 2003?
daveklepper Possibly the north half of the C&A was out of service before 2003 and is now usable.
What did you mean by the "the." "This"? If so, do yoy mean the Hill Connection or the Camden and Amboy?
