Paterson NJ's example will haunt Christie

Article states that Paterson is epicenter of growing population and NJ Transit additional passengers at many stations.

I've read that article, it's good and should come as no surprise to us railfans.

I don't live in New Jersey anymore but still like to keep track of "what's goin' on" up there.

I didn't know that Christie wasn't a supporter of nj transit.

I'm tempted to say he is and he isn't.  His approach to NJT has been while acknowledging it's importance he's been "hands-off" regarding it, not paying too much attention to it and letting it run itself.

Something to be said for that if everything's going right, but NJT's had issues in the past few years that should have called for more of Christie's attention, too many to go into here.

By the way, I didn't interpret the article as a shot at Christie, it was just a simple statement of facts.

At any rate, the city of Paterson has problems that no amount of Jersey Transit money can fix.  Those problems have nothing to do with transit availability. Check www.northjersey.com or www.nj.com on a regular basis like I do and you'll see what I mean.

NJT is  run by a 7 member board of director appointed by the governor. He does have veto power over their decisions

One would think it be hard to elected governor on jersey with out showing support since it operates most of the states mass transit systems.

Although I know Christie's not real good with bridges.

Oh, the George Washington Bridge traffic jam!

THAT was the fault of some, shall we say, "overly-motivated" Christie staffers and supporters.  Ol' Chris didn't order that, none of the above mentioned staffers have pointed in his direction and wailed "He MADE me do it!"

Christie may have done some foolish things lately, but he's not foolish enough to FUBAR a major transportation artery out of spite.

I'll tell you, if you're an elected official you've got to watch out who who hire, some may be tempted to play governor, or president, or whatever if you're not watching and cause you some real problems.

It's politics man, it just cooks people's brains.

And the seven members of NJT's board of directors?  As far as I know they were all in place before Christie took office, but as I said he's been "hands-off" as far as NJT's been concerned.

Lou Costello, a great son of New Jersey!

Did you know as a teenager he boxed in the "Golden Gloves" competitions?

Ol' Lou was a LOT tougher than his screen persona!

Oh, and on that map of Paterson NJ, look at the northeast corner.  See Maple Avenue "to Ridgewood and Haverstraw?"  If you're in the area follow Maple Ave. to Ridgewood, turn left on Ackerman Avenue, and after a mile or so look for Van Dyk's Ice Cream on your right.  Best ice cream in North Jersey!  Lady Firestorm will KILL for their maple walnut!

Nothing to do with trains you say, au contrare, you pass under the former Erie, now NJ Transit Bergen County Line on the way to Van Dyks!

And thank you Mr. Willison!
