The T will be running these trains, however. :)
I'll have to say that given the conditions on the roads and the airport the shut down seems like a wimp out!
Over reaction to the red line stall ? Certainly could have operated the underground portions. Amtrak did operate most of their BOS NEC trains today with some delays but not as bad as this poster would have guessed. Even Acela operated.
Now the rest of the story. Evidently Scott fiddled while MBTA has slowly died.

Questions that probably have been answered before.
1. How many subway lines are DC traction ?
2. Some reports that the new Blue line cars are AC ?
3. The older commuter rail locos are what type traction ? Are the new locos AC ?
One would think that a priority for any snow belt commuter rail and subway is to replace DC traction as fast as possible.
Now MBTA suspending all service including bus on Sunday. Anyone know if this will cancel Downeaster and LSL ?

Commuters headed to work on Tuesday after a ridiculous amount of snow over the holiday weekend (with another several inches expected overnight) will have limited T service to assist them in their travels, though some will have to use shuttle buses and it is likely everyone will experience delays.
Here’s the latest on where the trains are running, according to the MBTA website:
Red Line
Trains are running between Alewife and Andrew Stations “about every six to seven minutes.” South of Andrews, riders will have to rely on a “limited bus replacement service” for both the Ashmont and Braintree branches.
Orange Line
Service between Back Bay and Sullivan Square, with trains expected about every 12 minutes. South of Back Bay and north of Sullivan, it’s the shuttles.
Blue Line
The magical beast known as “the blue line” will be running in its entirety, with trains arriving every seven to eight minutes.
Green Line
Lechmere to Kenmore is open. Trains between North Station and Kenmore are operating every five to six minutes (there was no information on how often trains from North Station to Lechmere will run).
For the B branch, the Route 57 bus will make stops between Packards Corner and Kenmore. Abandon all hope, ye who live west of Packards Corner, as there will be “no bus service” there.
The C branch will have shuttle buses between Cleveland Circle and Kenmore.
E branch riders will have to use the Route 39 bus between Heath and Northeastern.
D branch riders have won the green line lottery, with “limited trolley service” along the entire route.
Commuter Rail
Will operate on a “modified weekday schedule” that is expected to include “significant delays and several canceled trips.”
Buses
On a weekday schedule, but expect delays because the roads are just awful.
The waits are long and the service is “limited,” but Friday will see the opening of several more MBTA stations, including the Green Line’s E branch and the Red Line’s North Quincy stop, as the service continues its efforts to get back on track.
The E branch rollout had some issues, though. Service between Brigham Circle and Heath Street was suspended just before 7:30 a.m. due to street-level traffic. The trolley service returned by mid-day.
Here’s what’s open:

Trains are running from Alewife to Ashmont. The North Quincy station has opened on the Braintree line, which should be fully restored by Monday. But the Mattapan trolley is still the Mattapan shuttle until next Friday, February 27.
Good news! The E branch is now open (albeit temporarily with suspended service). Bad news! The B branch is not. Meh news! The B branch replacement shuttle runs from Boston College to Kenmore. Before, you had to take the shuttle to Packards Corner and then the Route 57 bus from Packards Corner to Kenmore.
“Modified weekly schedule,” which, according to reports from various frustrated passengers, includes last-minute cancellations and numerous lengthy delays. Keolis, which operates the MBTA’s commuter lines, did not respond to request for comment.
