Chicago Transit Authority Closed Stations.

ALL:

Why did the CTA close several stations (Central, Kostner, and California) on the Forest Park Line? Have other stations been closed as well?

The simple answer was patronage.  All of the affected stations were poor performers from the beginning.  1970s urban "renewal" affected ridership heavily on the Congress/Blue line.  Original station spacing was also based on pre-1953 patronage, a lot of which did not return due to the massive disruption caused by building the Congress (now Eisenhower) expressway.
