NJT Gladstone Branch catenary poles

Ever since Hurricane Sandy I was wondering why the Gladstone Branch catenary poles were so special that they had to be custom-built rather than replaced with something more conventional.

What's so special about the cantilever poles and why couldn't they be replaced with something more conventional?

Based on the picture in the link, the cantilever poles on the Morris & Essex look like an updated version of poles that I've seen on sidings and interchange tracks on the South Shore when its freight service was electrically operated.  They aren't that unusual.  On the other hand, electric operation in the United States is rather uncommon so catenary supports are not exactly a stock item in a supplier's catalogue.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
