NJT has problems
Posted by henry6 on Friday, May 2, 2014 11:30 AM

A washout on the NJT line at Towaco between Denville and Montclair State University has shut the line down at least until Monday.  The washout occurred about 1AM Thursday. NJT responded quickly with bus shuttle between Denville and MSU while running the trains via the Morristown line.  Thus preserving service west of Denville and Dover.

However this morning an apparent electric problem cancelled Mid Town Direct and other electric service out of Dover with the detouring diesel trains off the Boonton LIne picking up the passenger loads where possible but that's only five Boonton line trains plus three diesel to Hoboken trains to take their passengers plus the 4 or 5 cancelled trains. NJT did not elaborate on their website and there were no news media accounts of the problem despite improving communications from NJT of late.

NJT web page says service Denville to MSU will resume Monday morning with train 1070 out of Denville at 5:48AM.  Good job, fast work.   Service was disrupted after washout occurred about 1AM Thursday morning. Crews have worked since then to make repairs for service on this part of the Montclair-Boonton line from Hoboken to Denville, Dover, Lake Hopatcong, and Hackettstown.
