Who knows that NJT will start one seat rides to NYP from High Bridge and Raritan next Monday? Unless one is on line and happens to find the new timetables and takes the time to read the fine print and interpret the symbols, no one does. No banner, no headline, no instructions on the timetable. And schedule pages that don't really tell the story, the timetable is not clear on the trains except for a symbol. No announcement on the website, no releases listed when you find the "news" button. When Dover and Gladstone's Mid Town Direct opened, it was a big affair touted for weeks. As was the addition of MSU and Long Branch Mid Town Direct Services. And this all happens a week from today? This is not NJT the informative, proud, and classy operation the I've known and respected, even applauded through the years, but a hapless group of players who who do not instill confidence in NJT from the viewpoint of a rider or a pundit of the masses.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

Odd...I would think that NJT would try to publicize any achievement to try to improve public opinion. Especially after the events of the last couple years.
Well, Bluestreak 1, a lot has to do with Governor Christie and former NJT head Weinstein. NJT under Christie has become a political Lionel set and refuge for supporters. Since Sandy all PR and announcements have come from the Governor's office and not from NJT headquarters. Now that Ms Hamlik has been transferred to the position of head of NJT from leader of the Turnpike Authority, I don't think it will change. Politicians cannot run trains, they cannot provide services. You cannot appoint political team players to these positions and expect good services: real railroaders get turn off and leave, those left support the ineptitude for fear of losing jobs or with the knowledge there will be an election again; in NJ there appears to be a hope of an impeachment as nooses keep flying off bridges aimed at Christie.
As of right now, the service will only operate off peak weekdays. Penn Station is at capacity during rush hour and on weekends, one tunnel is usually closed for maintenance. It really won't do daily commuters much good for now.
HEY! Stop callin' NJT a "political Lionel set"! I've GOT the Lionel New Jersey Transit set and now it's VERY upset and insulted! Now I've got to go out to the Chugger Barn and calm it down! Jeez! And it was running so well today!
I can just hear my MTH 611: "Aw, take it easy son, it ain't directed at you...."
At least the Lionel NJT set works like it's supposed to.
