Interesting that they are apparently taking the funding from money put aside for a Love Field airport connector.  Why isn't that connector being built?  Wouldn't an airport connector be at least as worthwhile as a streetcar line extension?  Isn't Love Field quite busy, as Southwest's hub?

Just asking.

DART light rail already has a station stop at Love Field with a short shuttle bus ride to the Terminal, thats probably why they do not think of it as high a priority anymore.    Likewise they will build a more convienent stop at DFW airport in the next 2-3 years.     Love field is a much smaller operation than DFW.    Last but not least, Dallas has a signed agreement with Ft. Worth not to make direct improvements to Dallas Love field.     The agreement was signed prior to both cities pooling their money to build DFW.    Likewise Ft. Worth isn't allowed to improve it's old airport.     While the connector might fall outside the agreement, there might be some concern over getting sued by Ft. Worth.

which airport are you referring ?  Greater southwest airport  ( GSW ) had part of its territory folded into DFW.  ( look to the southwest corner of DFW ).  Now if it is another airport ?

All in all, sounds like transit is doing better than one might have expected in Dallas!!

The agreement long predates my arrival here I have no idea of the specifics only heard it mentioned in general terms again and again with Southwests use of LOVE field.

All in all, sounds like transit is doing better than one might have expected in Dallas!!

So far so good, Fort Worth is converting their buses to LNG, hoping Dallas will do the same.    Dallas bus system, buses are new but a lot of them run empty and IMO, they need to rationalize routes and schedules some more so that does not happen.    I have never been able to ride DART into downtown where the cars were not at least 70-90% full by the time we reached downtown and at least that full when they left downtown.     I only ride it on weekends usually but still that is pretty good even for a weekend.    Have not ridden that much Mon-Fri.     DART light rail cars are standing room only when there is a weekend event going on like the Texas State Fair or a Mavericks game.

Wasn't this precisely one of the practices from which railroads were enjoined under the various business and railway regulatory and anti-trust acts enacted by Congress -- traffic pooling agreements?   Sounds like raw market power being excercised.

My question --  Parking

Of course love field and dfw will have ~~ unlimited parking

How many stations hve full parking when there are events at the convention center ?  Direct service will definitely add more autos to all parking locations. How many ??

Have my car and GPS  so getting around is not an issue. At my home in Phoenix, I have either a 2 hour or 1 hour drive to see high frequency mainline action.

I would just recommend Dallas Union Station, pay parking is behind the station and you can view the action from the platforms which are all open to the public.    Entrance to the pay parking is a little driveway that borders the Eastern End of the Station right before you turn right onto another street.     You should be able to watch your car even from the platforms while taking pictures BUT it is not a high crime area and there is both a DART transit police as well as small Railroad police presence there.     Additionally, stairs down to tunnels from the platform will take you over to the Dallas Hyatt where you can get something to eat or walk to the West End and get something to eat there.

Mon-Fri, approx a freight train each hour through Dallas Union Station.     Union Pacific mostly, some BNSF, occasional transfer run from one of the local shortlines.      Passenger traffic is Trininty Railway Express Commuter Rail,  DART light rail and Amtrak.
