This is first event in some time maybe last summers work has reduced the probability of slides ?

Just another day in the Northwest...

The last three days we had a huge storm that brought the first major rain this winter. So, I'm not surprised, usually this is more common in November, but this year it was dry and very cold. So was December.

I think that a large section of the bluffs that are collapsing is not on BNSF property, so they can't really do much in some areas.

As if BNSF doesn't have enough problems another mudslide on north end of Seattle.  Another 2 days of cancelled Sounder trains. .  This will affect Amtrak as well.

Blue Streak, your link directs me to a login page.

That there was landslides doesn't surprise me, we have had three days of heavy rain and 60MPH gusts, interrupting a couple of weeks of unusually calm weather.
