Ahead of schedule all excavation of job site is complete.  Cannot imagine a 4 block site up to 80 ft deep how much material was removed.  Note the below announcement also says all steel bracing is installed. The area of the terminal is in an area that the soil is not stable.  Anyone know ?

Here is announcement -----------

The Transbay Joint Powers Authority has officially reached another substantial milestone: the completion of excavation and internal bracing of the 4 block jobsite! Although excavation is complete, there are other important activities ahead of us such as the completion and testing of micropiles and geothermal piping, installation of waterproofing, and the continued foundation work as we progress into the Eastern Transit Center site.  Steel fabrication is underway and will be assembled onsite this summer! Join us on Wednesday, February 19, 2014  to learn more about these activities and what's in store for us in the coming year. The community meeting will be held at 12 noon at the TJPA offices located at 201 Mission Street, Suite 2100.  We appreciate that you are taking your lunch hour to learn about this innovative project, and would of course welcome you to bring food or drinks to this meeting.

Cannot find a link yet but is reported that the terminal construction is at the half-way point.  No indication if that means just the structure or everything ?

I'm still trying to think about 1st & Mission without Transbay Terminal. Or the Bay Bridge approaches to Transbay.
Progress

Despite my travels through the temporary bus terminal several times recently, I can't confirm much visually. South Of Market today is an astounding forest of modern high rises that block most views from ground level. No doubt that all that material had to be removed - that is the post-1906 earthquake landfill area very hastily filled in with rubble. I did not see any signs of 'new' bus ramp construction being started. Not surprisingly, the web site is pretty vague about activities that should have started like the Caltrain / HSR tunnel from 4th and Townsend to the new TTC.

FWIW the construction 'schedule': http://www.transbaycenter.org/construction-updates/project-schedule

Ahead of schedule, riiiiight.

Building is reported to have a $20 M shortfall until Caltrain and HSR reaches terminal.

No big surprise. The location's Achilles heel has always been, and will be, no high frequency light rail service from the get go.  Building the BART/Muni pedestrian tunnel should have been phased earlier IMO. Perhaps they should accelerate use of the buildings retail space by discounted rents and take a bigger cut of the profits. Get a certain U.S. president to purchase naming rights for a few years.

Oh, and how about temporarily subdividing the basement into replacement condos for the folks in the Leaning Tower next block over.

Technically it's not a $20M shortfall, that's the estimated annual operating costs and has nothing to do with the $2.4B construction costs.  However, I see the City of S.F. has decided to stupidly withhold it's $6.7M share of the engineering costs for the electrified Caltrain tunnel into the transit center presuming it might never get built since the DoT/FTA is withholding the $647M(already budgeted I might add) Federal portion of the CalTrain electrification money...as if the state/Bay Area can't come up with the funds if necessary while the Feds screw around.  Eventually our Executive office will realize that the Federal deficit and the budget are really just paper money and don't mean didly squat in the real world and go back to normal.  Unless someone wants to buy up enough gold and hold it in Fort Knox to back up a $3T/year Federal budget.

Center opened last week ( aug 7th ) to bus traffic, the park can now be accessed by the public.  Still some work to be done. Terrible naming rights "Salesforce"

The bad news The SFO POLS want a train tunnel from present Caltrain station to Transbay  Just an additional cool $1.0B+ no way to get money.  So at present no way to take train to Transbay.

There are also some kind of problems building tail tracks and eventual connectionsunnel bores to Oakland.

No need; they will have condo space in their own basement very soon now.

Welll it is shut down again.  A second cracked beam has ben found.  That will probably require an extended shut down to look for possible defects.  We can think of three possible reasons.  One will be to make sure there is not any uneven settling that could have cause these cracks.  Guess some very precise measurements will determine if there is any settling ?  Could it have been the leaning tower of San Francisco be that cause a possibility ?  Two is possibility of structural steel  failures  ? Probably every beam from same steel batch and others near present cracks will need various NDTs to determine if any flaws ? Third is overload ?

Any Other problems noted by others  ?

A preliminary engineering report has been issued that highlights three potential items causing the cracks in the beam.  Read report noting that this only occurred on bridging over Freemont Street and not an identical bridge over 1st street.  The need to change standards of  fabrication of large thickness plate girders, llocation and size of large welding holes ( LWH ), Change engineering practices that at present were considered adequate.
