Thank you very much.
First place to look is George Elwood's tremendous site

Lots of old service manuals there.
Enzoamps Considering my recent questions about traction motors and after just reading in the new issue of CT about EMD electric locos, I wonder if technical documents are available to guys on the street like me? I would love to see the schematic of a GP9 say or an electric loco for that matter. And is there a good basic book on electric locomotive design. Entry level, my calculus was almost 60 years ago. I understand things like filter capacitors and thyristors, but don't have a context for their use in high power settings like locomotives.

The Indian Railways make much of their technical material available publically.

gives a selection of documents. I downloaded the Central Railway book on AC traction electirc locomotives, 310 relatively small pages, but incuding many circuit block diagrams and other explanatory material, as well as general troubleshooting instructions.
Other books cover EMD AC traction diesel locomotives and older Alco locomotives.
